Sweetwater Sound — Fort Wayne's hometown name in music instruments and pro audio — recently brought Shawnee Construction in for an interior remodel built around acoustics. In a recent walkthrough video, project lead Bailey took us through the finished space and pointed out the details that make it work.

Built for Sound, Not Just for Show

A space that's used for audio every day has to be built differently than a typical retail interior. Working alongside JBL on the sound system, our crew handled the construction side of an integration designed to disappear into the walls.

  • White speakers recessed into the walls for clean lines and even dispersion

  • A custom couch with built-in speakers, doubling as a listening station

  • Polished concrete floors throughout

  • An integrated ceiling grid with insulated tiles to manage reflections

Recessing the speakers meant getting wall framing, electrical rough-in, and finish carpentry all coordinated before drywall went up. Done well, you don't see the work — you just hear the result.

The Live Sound Room: A Room Inside a Room

The centerpiece of the build is the live sound room. To keep sound from bleeding in or out, our team built it as a room inside a room: double-insulated walls separated by a one-inch air gap. That gap is the difference between a recording space that sounds professional and one that doesn't.

The Finish Work That Holds It All Together

A space this acoustically tuned still has to look the part. Our scope covered:

  • All cabinets and casework

  • Ceiling grid throughout the project

  • Lighting package — can lights and track lighting placed for both function and feel

  • Polished concrete floors

Painting was handled by our partners at Hanna Brothers, and the finish quality speaks for itself.

Another Build That Earns Its Place

Sweetwater is a brand built on attention to detail, and this project asked for the same. From frame-out to final walkthrough, this is the kind of interior renovation and retail and hospitality build we love getting our hands on.
